Dean: Thomas Lappas, Ph.D.
The College of Liberal Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education at Nazareth University encompasses a wide range of disciplines within liberal arts and sciences, business, and education.
The mission of the College of Arts and Sciences states: “The College of Arts and Sciences engages students with focused major programs in liberal studies and fine arts and with an undergraduate core curriculum in these areas. The faculty, through teaching, research and creative pursuits, foster an environment where the quest for knowledge is considered valuable for its own sake as well as useful preparation for students’ future endeavors. In this environment students develop the habits of mind of thoughtful, adaptable, creative and productive human beings.”
The goal is to encourage students to strive for academic excellence while developing a broad understanding of the world in which they live. In attending Liberal Arts and Sciences’ classes you will not only gain an outstanding college education, learning through doing and putting yourself on the path to personal and professional success; you will also be taught how to learn throughout your entire lifetime.
School of Business and Leadership
The School of Business and Leadership prepares students to be responsible decision-makers who contribute sustainable value for themselves, organizations and society. This is accomplished through learner-centered programs that are global, ethical and entrepreneurial in orientation. The School of Business and Leadership offers students many ways to grow and learn through:
- Student Diversity: Our graduate degree programs attract students from a wide array of industries and academic backgrounds as well as students from the Higher Education Student Affairs Administration program. This diversity of backgrounds creates an integrated number of perspectives to learn with and from. We offer Master of Science degrees in Global Business and Leadership, Human Resource Leadership, and Strategic Marketing.
- Teaching Excellence: Our full-time faculty and long-term relationships with adjunct instructors bring highly-respected professionals and scholars together for practical and relevant learning in the classroom.
- Individual Attention: Small class size leads to greater exchange of ideas. In a School where the student to professor ratio is 12 to 1 and the class size is capped at 25, you get personalized, individual attention to focus your learning and reach your goals.
School of Education
Offering a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate teacher education degree, teacher residency, and certification-only programs, the School of Education provides many opportunities for students to pursue their life’s work as changemaker educators.
The mission of the School of Education is to prepare teachers who are educated in the liberal arts and committed to a life guided by intellectual, moral and ethical values. To carry out its mission, the School of Education:
- demonstrates the liberal arts’ contribution to supporting and enhancing professional preparation;
- recruits faculty members who support the school’s goals, are sensitive to the needs of individual students, are committed to teaching and scholarship, and connect practice to theory;
- provides curricula that challenge students to high academic achievement and prepare them to become ethical and reflective teachers;
- advances in its students the intellectual development necessary for critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication;
- promotes respect for diversity through culturally responsive study and instruction, diverse clinical placements, and a commitment to recruit a more diverse faculty and student population;
- employs technology to extend the professional expertise of both faculty and students;
- serves the community’s children and families;
- supports dynamic collaboration between its faculty and the broader community of schools, agencies, and cultural institutions for mutual professional growth.
