Inclusive Education Specialty Program (30 Credit Hours)

The Inclusive Education Specialty Program is for teachers seeking a master’s degree and a pathway to professional certification. The program is open to any teacher who holds initial certification in teaching students with disabilities (Birth-grade 2, Grades 1-6, 7-12 or all grades) and either Early Childhood Education (Birth-grade 2), Childhood Education (grades 1-6), or a content area (grades 7-12). This program will deepen teachers’ knowledge and skills to meet the needs of diverse learners and includes the opportunity to add the Gifted and Talented Extension, Bilingual Extension, or the Severe and Multiple Disabilities Annotation. It is offered through distance learning and all courses will be taught online.

Core Courses (15 credits)
Concentration Options (9 credits)
Students must choose ONE of the following concentrations:
Severe and Multiple Disabilities Annotation
Gifted and Talented Extension
Bilingual Education Extension
Elective Courses (3 credits)
In consultation with their graduate program director, students will choose one additional graduate course as an elective.
DASA/Bullying Workshop
Per NYS requirements, all candidates in teacher certification programs must show completion of this mandated workshop. Students pursuing additional/pathway to professional certification must have this in place either through a workshop that is verified on TEACH, or through a completed state-approved course linked to their initial certification program.
Inclusive Education Specialty Capstone Sequence (3 credits)
Add On Options
Students may elect to add additional options to the Inclusive Education Specialty Program in consultation with their advisor.
