Accounting - Major

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: ACADEMIC PROGRAMS A-Z

Students completing the accounting major acquire the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as active members of the accounting profession. Students will be immersed in a business core curriculum that provides an understanding of economics, management, marketing, technology, finance, entrepreneurial and global issues. They will learn to use sound professional judgment to resolve problems in an analytical and ethical manner. Their professional education will be balanced with studies in the liberal arts to better understand the role of the professional in business and society. In addition, students are encouraged to pursue an internship in accounting to gain valuable work experience for academic credit.

Students completing the B.S. Accounting will have all the necessary (33 credits) of accounting courses required to sit for the New York State CPA exam.

Students completing the B.S. Accounting/M.S. Management will meet all (150 credits) required to sit for the New York State CPA exam.

Please note that for accounting majors, some liberal arts courses taken to satisfy a business requirement will not also satisfy a liberal arts requirement for NYSCPA licensure.  Students are therefore encouraged to work with their advisors to ensure compliance consistent with the 120 credit hour B.S. Accounting degree.

A minimum grade of C is required for all accounting courses and an overall minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for completion of a B.S. in Accounting.

A minimum GPA of 2.7 is required to continue with the 30 credit M.S. Management program. See Nazareth College Graduate Catalog, M.S. in Management Program for information on graduate requirements.
