Music Business - Major (BS)

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: College of Visual and Performing Arts and Design

Nazareth University’s music business degree program is the first of its kind in the Rochester area - a joint collaboration between the School of Music and the School of Business and Leadership that introduces musicians to all aspects of the industry. The program is unique for its breadth and exposes students to the creative, financial, legal, technical, and marketing aspects of the industry.

The major cultivates a thorough understanding of the functional areas of business, as well as the economic, demographic, social, political, and psychological forces that shape the music business. It offers students a global perspective and the cultural competency they will need to interact with people of different backgrounds.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will:

  1. Demonstrate basic musicianship skills involved in piano performance.
  2. Demonstrate basic musicianship proficiency in aural skills.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of basic Western music theory and rock composition skills (with options for jazz theory as well).
  4. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the functional areas of business including marketing, promotion and entrepreneurship.
