Pre-Law Program

The History/Political Science Department is responsible for advising students who are interested in pursuing careers in law, either as lawyers or as paralegal assistants. There is no formally recognized Pre-Law major as such. The American Bar Association recommends that interested persons should major in a discipline in which they can excel and find satisfaction. It also recommends that, regardless of the major chosen, a student should select courses that emphasize the skills of verbal and written comprehension and expression, a critical understanding of human institutions and the values with which the law deals and the creative power of thinking. To enhance the mastery of these skills and insights, the department sponsors a program that includes courses in logic, rhetoric, law, history and political science. Interested students should contact the Pre-Law advisor to develop an appropriate course of study for their four years of college.
