Student Organizations
The primary organization for all student activities is the Undergraduate Association. An elected Student Senate composed of four officers and representatives from each class is responsible for allocating funds for student activities and meets regularly to consider issues of campus concern.
The Undergraduate Association works closely with the Office of the Vice President for Student Development. This office and all the other departments of the college have a special commitment to the students in providing quality programs, services and conditions, to ensure their individual well-being and continued academic progress.
Nazareth has a variety of organizations and clubs to meet almost any student’s needs. The Foreign Language Clubs, Music Therapy Club, Rotaract, Commuter Association, and Association of Social Work Students are just a few of the 30 clubs and organizations. INC. (Inter-Ethnic Nazareth Coalition) hosts activities designed to promote multicultural awareness. Honor societies in major academic departments are associated with national and international organizations and provide important contacts with other people in the field.
Two student publications provide an opportunity for students interested in journalistic and creative writing, photography, art, advertising and business management. The Gleaner, the student newspaper, is published regularly and is a member of the United Students Press Association. Sigillum is the college yearbook.
Committees from the Arts Center and the Undergraduate Association coordinate the cultural and social calendar to provide an extracurricular program of speakers, dances, films, dinners, parties and theatrical productions. Students also play a vital role in the college’s operation by serving on various committees.
Summer Course Selection/Fall Orientation Programs
Nazareth College schedules three days each summer for course selection and academic advisement of all new students. Freshmen are mailed materials and instructions for selecting courses. They submit their course preference card by mail prior to attending a summer academic orientation session. When they meet with a faculty advisor at the summer session, they receive a confirmed schedule for fall.
Transfer students meet with a faculty advisor during these sessions for advising and planning and for course selecting for their fall schedules.
Placement tests in Modern Foreign Languages are administered to those attending. Students who are not able to attend one of the summer sessions may select courses and take the placement tests during the fall orientation session.
Fall orientation is planned jointly by students and college staff and introduces new students to the academic and cultural life of the campus by providing opportunities to explore Nazareth and the larger community.
Residential Living
A professional staff under the supervision of the Director of Residential Life works to ensure that resident living is a positive experience. Three area directors are in charge of residence halls and are aided by a resident assistant on each floor. These resident assistants are students who are selected for their maturity and outstanding academic and personal qualities.
