The Campus

Facilities

Twenty-three buildings, attractively integrating the old and new, are situated on 150 acres near the village of Pittsford, New York. These structures range from the Gothic-style Smyth Hall, one of the three original buildings on campus, to the contemporary Casa Italiana, a gift to the college from Rochester’s Italian-American community and ten residence halls. Many of the buildings have approach ramps along with automatic door openers and closures.

Instructional Facilities

Most of the classrooms and laboratories are located in Smyth Hall, the Arts Center, or in Carroll Hall. A computer center in Smyth Hall has computers for student use (including a 24-hour lab). In addition to the terminals in the library and Smyth Hall, there are terminals in the Kearney dormitory that are available to students 18 hours a day.

The art and music classrooms and studios as well as music practice rooms are located in the Arts Center. A speech and hearing clinic is located in Carroll Hall. This clinic offers clinical experience to undergraduate and graduate students and services to the com-munity. The Health Science/Physical Therapy Department is also located in Carroll Hall. Faculty and administrative offices are located in Smyth Hall, the Arts Center and Carroll Hall. Additional class-rooms and seminar rooms, computer labs and faculty offices will be available in the newly acquired Academic Center as soon a renovations are completed.

The Marie Callahan Reading Center in Lourdes Hall provides education students with an opportunity to work with children and teenagers from the community who need help in reading.

Residential Facilities

More than half of the college’s full-time students live on campus. The residence halls are designed to provide a choice of living accommodations, and living on campus is considered an integral part of the student’s total educational experience. The residence halls are staffed by well-trained professional and paraprofessional people who are committed to provide quality assistance and service to all students. Security and Residential Life Staff work collectively to ensure appropriate safety and uphold college policies. Students may have cars on campus and lighted parking lots are available near the residence halls.

The ten residence halls are Founders Hall, O’Connor Complex, Lourdes Hall, Lyons Hall, Breen Hall, Medaille Hall, Kearney Hall, La Maison Française, Portka Hall and North Hall (open in fall 2003). The residence halls, both single-sex and co-ed, offer singles, doubles, suites and apartments. Lounge areas and kitchen and laundry facilities are available in each residence hall. Breen, Lyons, and Portka are apartment style residence halls. There are several Special Interest Groups in residence: the Quiet Zone, and Choice Living Groups are in the O’Connor Complex. Kearney Hall houses the First Year Experience Program.
