Includes an introduction to all phases of Theatre Arts, academic as well as studio. Electives allow limited specialization. Project courses in the senior year are designed for concentrated work in special areas under faculty supervision.
The Senior Experience for Theatre majors consists of a required seminar (Tha 452-Seminar in Theatre with Internship). In this course, the students reflect on their major experience, and they are given opportunities to integrate material from theatre and other core areas of the college experience. A final project is required in some phase of production, design, or theory.
Participation in college theatrical productions and departmental workcalls
is required. A total of seven (7) production Labs are required in at least four
(4) different areas with at least one “preparation” (P) and one “run
crew” (R) experience in any of the following areas:
- Acting; Assistant Stage Management;
- Costumes (R, P); Scenery (R,P); Lights (R,P); Sound (R,P); Properties (R,P);
Makeup (R,P); Special Projects* (R,P)
The seven required Labs will be awarded credit as follows:
- Two Labs (0 credit) in two different areas are included within Tha 120
and Tha 150.
- Five Labs (1 credit) in two additional areas.
- A student may not repeat a single area for a fifth experience until completing
the seven Labs required in four different areas.
- Advanced students may petition for Tha 345 Theatre Practicum credit for
leadership positions after meeting the Lab requirement if they so choose.
* Special Projects include such jobs as Master Electrician, Dramaturge, Makeup Designer, Properties Design, Sounds Design, Directing, Costume Cutter, Technical Director
