The American Medical Association recommends that interested persons should
major in a discipline in which they can excel and find satisfaction. It also
recommends that, regardless of the major chosen, a student should select courses
that emphasize the skills of verbal and written comprehension, a critical
understanding of human values and the creative power of thinking. Interested
students should contact the pre-med advisor to develop an appropriate course of
study for their four years of college.
Nazareth College Pre-Medical students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and
perform a minimum of 160 hours of community/pre-medical clinical service.
Students wanting an officially designated Pre-Medical Minor (accomplished by
completing the Major Advisor form in the Academic Advisement Office) should take
the following courses. All science courses must include a laboratory component.
Medical school is not the only option for those students interested in a medical career. Students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with such other health-related professions as Dentistry, Optometry, Podiatry or Osteopathic, Chiropractic or Veterinary Medicine.
