Philosophy

Major Program Requirements

A three-credit basic course, plus nine additional courses selected with departmental advisement. At least one Honors Seminar is recommended.

Philosophy majors are able to continue to law school, to graduate work in the growing areas of human ecology, energy ethics, biomedical ethics and library science. They may choose to enter the Inclusive Education (Quadruple Certification Grades 1-9) program, as well as design their programs for recreational values, employment, business and management as a related cluster or communication and media special grouping. Programs are tailor-made by each student, for each student, with departmental advisement.

The Senior Experience in philosophy consists of philosophy Honors Seminar. By research and writing, as well as oral presentations and discussions, seniors reveal the connections of their course material in philosophy as well as the multidisciplinary implications of most philosphic issues studied, thus using all core areas to enrich their understandings of these issues.

For students majoring in another area, there is a Philosophy minor consisting of 18 credits of Philosophy including Phl 101.
