Education: Initial Teacher Certification in Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education

Program Eligibility
Students self-select for admittance into the major. Students can self-select at any time from their initial application to Nazareth University through their sophomore year. If a student has completed fewer than 45 credit hours, or has a GPA lower than 2.7, the student is accepted conditionally. Students need to maintain a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA, and obtain a grade of “C” or higher in all education courses to remain in the major.
Before beginning junior level education coursework, students who have declared inclusive early childhood/childhood as a major will be required to demonstrate their readiness to move forward with an overall cumulative GPA that meets or exceeds 2.7. Students need to maintain a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA, and obtain a grade of “C” or higher in all education courses to progress in the inclusive early childhood/childhood education major.

Required Courses for Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education Major
The following courses are required for the Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education major. The major prepares students for the initial teacher certification requirements in three certification areas: Early Childhood Education (Grades B-2), Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), and Teaching Students with Disabilities, all grades (Grades PK-12). Students in the Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood major who are pursuing a B.A. degree must take all electives in liberal arts areas in order to earn the 90 liberal arts credits that are required for the degree. NOTE: In addition to the courses listed below, 6 credits in each of the following areas are required: Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. - EDIN 101 - Developmental Learning in School: Early Childhood Credits: 1
