Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: College of Liberal Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education

English majors encounter literature, rhetoric, and culture through the study of both traditional and cutting-edge genres, including short stories, poems, films, podcasts, graphic novels, and zines. Core courses in British, American, and global literature provide broad knowledge of the literary tradition, in addition to skill in literary and cultural analysis and criticism. Electives allow for in-depth study of literature in diverse cultural contexts, and offer opportunities to develop rhetorical and creative writing skills.

Students who elect to combine English with teacher certification may double major in English and Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education. Students receive special instruction in teaching methods and philosophy through the English department, in addition to their required coursework in the Department of Inclusive Childhood Education. All Inclusive Early Childhood & Childhood Education students are required to have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher in order to advance into Junior-level education coursework.

*Note: Only four courses (12 credit hours) will be accepted as transfer credit toward the English major.

All Nazareth students complete Core Curriculum coursework as part of their degree requirements.
