Accounting - Major

Students completing the accounting major acquire the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as active members of the accounting profession. Students will be immersed in a business core curriculum that provides an understanding of economics, management, marketing, technology, finance, entrepreneurial and global issues. They will learn to use sound professional judgment to resolve problems in an analytical and ethical manner. Their professional education will be balanced with studies in the liberal arts to better understand the role of the professional in business and society. In addition, students are required to pursue an internship in accounting to gain valuable work experience for academic credit.

A grade of B- or higher in ACT*210 Principles of Accounting II is required to move forward with the accounting major. In addition, completion of a B.S. in Accounting requires a minimum GPA of 2.7 in Accounting coursework (ACT subject code) as well as an overall university-wide GPA of 2.7. Note - Accounting majors are not able to double major in Business Leadership.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able  to create evidence based solutions using relevant professional standards and frameworks (i.e. GAAP, GAAS, COSO).
  2. Students will be able to demonstrate a high level professional interpersonal competence.
  3. Students will be able to  evaluate business decisions and develop solutions to business opportunities.
  4. Students will be able to integrate the impact of external influences of global, political, legal and ethical factors with operational and financial reporting decisions.

Core Curriculum Requirements


All Nazareth students complete Core Curriculum coursework as part of their degree requirements. The Core provides a foundation in the liberal arts and sciences while guiding students to pose and explore their own intellectual questions.
