TSL 604 - Foundations of Bilingual/Multicultural Education This
course examines the historical, theoretical,
philosophical, ethical and
legal/regulatory
dimensions of the education of
culturally and
linguistically diverse
students. Varied
perspectives on forms and
models of bilingual
and multicultural education
are developed through
fieldwork in local educational
contexts as well
as reading of historical and
contemporary texts
and state and local policies.
The roles and
responsibilities of students,
parents,
community groups and agencies,
and educational
institutions in creating and
maintaining equitable
and effective educational
programs and practices
for students from all cultural
and linguistic
backgrounds are explored.
