Social Work - Major

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: School of Health and Human Services

The B.S. degree in social work requires extensive supervised field experience. The social work faculty partner with Rochester-area health and human service agencies to acquaint students with the diverse opportunities existing in the social work field.

Students are required to receive a minimum grade of ‘C’ in all required SWK courses, and must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher in order to continue in the major.

Core Curriculum Requirements

All Nazareth students complete Core Curriculum coursework as part of their degree requirements. The Core provides a foundation in the liberal arts and sciences while guiding students to pose and explore their own intellectual questions. See Academic Policies and Procedures  for specific core curriculum requirements.

Required Courses for Social Work - Major

Students are required to receive a minimum grade of ‘C’ in all required SWK courses.

Senior Experience for Social Work

Senior Integrative Seminar (SWK*452), together with the field practicum (SWK*484), strengthen the integration of theory and practice by emphasizing the linkages between the liberal arts and all components of the social work curriculum and practice. The Senior Integrative Seminar and field practicum further sharpen the student’s ability to question and to think critically; to explore personal, professional and cultural values as well as ethical issues; to prepare for productive contributions to the profession and society; and to engage in life-long learning.  SWK*452 incorporates the senior electronic portfolio. The portfolio assesses the student in the required content areas in social work, allows for further opportunities for linkages with the liberal arts, and provides outcome assessment information for the social work faculty.
