Biology Major with Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education Major

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: ACADEMIC PROGRAMS A-Z

Students seeking initial certification at the early childhood and childhood levels may double major in Biology and Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education. These students have the same science curriculum as the biology major, except that student teaching replaces a biology elective. Students in this double major are required to have a minimum overall GPA of 2.7 before moving into the INCH coursework, which typically begins fall semester of the junior year. Student teaching will be completed in the fall of senior year.

All biology department courses for the major must be completed with a grade of C- or better to satisfy the program requirements.

Core Curriculum Requirements

All Nazareth students complete Core Curriculum coursework as part of their degree requirements. The Core provides a foundation in the liberal arts and sciences while guiding students to pose and explore their own intellectual questions. See Academic Policies and Procedures  for specific core curriculum requirements.

Biology Core - Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education

The Biology core provides the foundation for this program.  Students take the courses listed below, as well as three additional biology electives.  The capstone experience prepares the students for their exit examination and subsequent career plans.

Elective Courses for Biology - Major

Biology majors select 1 course from each of the following lists of courses (Cellular/Molecular, Organismal, Ecology) for a total of 3 courses and a minimum of 11 credits (two of the three courses must have a lab component). Student teaching replaces the fourth biology elective. Note: Each course chosen will only satisfy ONE requirement.

Note: All courses must be taken with the laboratory whenever a laboratory is offered.
