Music Performance Major - Piano with a Pedagogy Emphasis (Bachelor of Music)

The Bachelor of Music degree in performance provides professional level performance training for students who intend to pursue careers as performing musicians. The curriculum includes pedagogy coursework, a comprehensive study of
the keyboard repertoire, and an overview of the ensemble literature associated with the piano. With an emphasis on applied music study, the program includes courses in the disciplines of music that inform and enrich the performance experience, including music theory and history, analysis, and conducting. The degree prepares students to assume leadership roles as independent professional musicians and for entrance into graduate degree programs.

Music Performance Core


* Minimum 6 credits in upper division Music Theory or History and Literature courses
* 20 credit hours applied music
* Choir, Band, or Orchestra (ENS 08_) - 8 Semesters
* MUS 019 - Concert Attendance Credits: 0 (8 semesters)
* MUS 099 - Music Department Orientation Credits: 0

In addition to the Cores listed above, Piano Performance students are required to take the following courses:

  • MUP 1B Primary Piano Lessons (20 credits total)
  • MUP 2V or 2L Performance Secondary Lessons (2 credits total)

Elective Courses for Music Performance Major - Piano


From the list below, students select four upper division music electives; two should be music history courses, two should be music theory courses.
