Piano - Minor

The Piano Minor is open to all students at Nazareth University who are not currently piano primaries in the School of Music. This 18 credit minor allows students to pursue a more focused interest in piano through secondary lessons and a variety of complementary courses. The Piano Minor is not appropriate for beginning piano students. Students interested in the Piano Minor must first be approved by the Coordinator of Keyboard Studies through an audition/screening process. Contact Dr. Jacob Ertl at jertl2@naz.edu.
Total credits required for the Piano Minor: 18

Required Courses (12 credits total)
Complete 6 credits from the following:
- Credits: 1
- Credits: 1
- MUP 2B/3B/4B - Performance Secondary Piano Credits: 1/semester (can be repeated)
Note - some courses have prerequisites: MUG 231/232, and MUS 124/126.
If a student places out of class piano courses, they must take secondary lessons to fulfill the remaining credits.
Complete 6 credits from the following:
Elective Courses (6 credits total)
Some courses have corequisites or prerequisites: MUP 332/461 and MUG 333. Students must complete 4 credits of MUG 231/232 or MUP 2B/3B/4B before enrolling in elective courses.
Piano Minor Juries
- Occurs each semester a piano minor is enrolled in secondary lessons, MUP 2B
- Must perform 2 pieces (or the equivalent as determined by the teacher if a student has chosen to tailor lessons for skills-based study or collaborative study, etc.)
- Memorization not required
