Theatre Arts Major with Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education Major

The Theatre Arts with Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education major is designed for students preparing to teach at the early childhood and elementary levels. The theatre arts portion of this program consists of 41 credits and production participations to complete the B.S. degree in Theatre Arts. Participation in Nazareth theatrical productions and departmental work calls is required.

Students seeking initial certification at the early childhood and childhood levels may double major in Theatre Arts and Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education. Students in this double major are required to have a minimum overall GPA of 2.7 before moving into INCH coursework which typically begins fall semester of the junior year. Students in this program are exempt from the Theatre Internship requirement.

Student  Learning outcomes:

  • The successful students will accomplish a proficiency in a broad range of theatrical production and performance artistry and skills
  • The successful students will speak and write articulately and defend their ideas formally and informally
  • The successful students will critically analyze and interpret theatrical scripts
  • The successful students will understand the impact of culture upon behavior including the impact of Eurocentric culture upon marginalized populations as presented in dramatic texts and productions
  • The successful students will have experienced and analyzed the impact that the performing arts has as an educating and communicating force in various cultures

Core Curriculum Requirements


All Nazareth students complete Core Curriculum coursework as part of their degree requirements. The Core provides a foundation in the liberal arts and sciences while guiding students to pose and explore their own intellectual questions. Theatre Arts Core

Theatre Arts Elective Courses


Theatre Arts students who are pursuing Inclusive Certification must take one three-credit theatre elective at the 200 level and one three-credit theatre elective at the 300/400 level.

In most cases, students must select the theatre electives that are designated as liberal arts courses in order to earn enough liberal arts credits for the bachelor of science degree.

Theatre Arts Senior Experience


The Senior Experience for Theatre majors consists of a required seminar (THA 452- Seminar in Theatre).  In this course, the students reflect on their major experience, and they are given opportunities to integrate material from theatre and other core areas of the college experience.  A final project is required in some phase of production, design or theory.
