German Studies - Minor

Students choosing to minor in German Studies have three options. All options require that students earn a total of 18 credits to complete the minor.

Option 1 - Study Abroad in Salzburg/Austria, plus selected German coursework

Study Abroad in Salzburg/Austria (one semester, no prior language requirement)

Earn 12-15 credits while studying in Salzburg
Fulfill PEQ/elective requirements with courses taught in English
Complete one or two German language courses at the student’s language level
Take an optional 3 credit internship
Live in the heart of historic Salzburg
Enjoy three-day weekends
Travel to Munich, Vienna, Prague, Venice, and other European cities

German Language Courses (one or two courses at Nazareth)
- Students must enroll in corequisite labs, if applicable, and labs count toward 18 credit total
- Courses can be taken in any order after GER*102 is complete
- Nazareth coursework can be completed before or after studying abroad
GER 102 - Elementary German II Credits: 3 /GER 102L Credits: 1 (note - students with limited or no proficiency must take GER*101 prior to enrolling in GER*102)
GER 201 - Intermediate German I Credits: 3 /GER 201L Credits: 1
GER 202 - Intermediate German II Credits: 3 /GER 202L Credits: 1
GER 203 - German Cultures I Credits: 3
GER 204 - German Cultures II Credits: 3
GER 207 - Conversational German I Credits: 3 /
GER 207L Credits: 1
GER 208 - Conversational German II Credits: 3 /
GER 208L Lab Conversational German II Credits: 1
GER 211 - Towards Proficiency in German I Credits: 3 /
GER 211L Lab Towards Proficiency in German I Credits: 1
GER 212 - Towards Proficiency in German II Credits: 3 /
GER 212L Lab Towards Proficiency in German II Credits: 1
GER 307 - Commercial German I Credits: 3
GER 308 - Commercial German II Credits: 3

Option 2 - German & Related Culture Coursework at Nazareth

Students who select this option are required to complete 18 credits of German coursework (subject code GER), level 102 or higher.

Note - language labs count toward the 18 credit total

Students may also complete up to two of the following German Culture courses (taught in English) to fulfill minor requirements:
