Community Youth Development - Minor

- Develops students’ knowledge, values and skills for meaningful interaction with children and youth.
- Trauma-informed and culturally responsive youth development practices are embedded in all CYD courses.
- Self-awareness and personal reflection are incorporated as a part of the service-learning experiences.
- Intentionally and coherently connects interdisciplinary academic coursework with students’ interests in youth and community-based youth development resources.

Required Community Youth Development Courses
Internship Requirement
Students take 3 credits of Internship, which can be completed in a variety of ways.
- CYD 483 - Community-Based Youth Development Internship I Credits: 1.5
(two semesters required for a total of 3 credits)
- Partners for Serving employment permitted for CYD*483 internship option.
- CYD 484 - Community-Based Youth Development Internship Credits: 3
(Summer internships using SPARK grants are permitted for internships for CYD*484 option)
Note - students who are majoring in Social Work with a minor in Community Youth Development will meet the internship requirement through completion of SWK 384 and SWK 352, and therefore do not have to complete CYD 483 or CYD 484
Senior Experience
CYD 480 is the senior experience, to be taken after completion of CYD 201, 301 and Internship (CYD 483 or CYD 484).
