MUS 470 - Musical Borrowing The course explores select methods and techniques of borrowing existing music by composers from the Middle Ages to postmodernism. The main focus will be on the changing functions of borrowing in various historical eras and corresponding musical practices ranging from the cantus firmus to quotation to recomposition to sampling. The course will also address the larger problem of intertextuality. Course Codes: R. Prerequisites: MUS*211 and MUS*212.
