LTED 643 - Introduction to Literacy Assessment, Evaluation, and Instruction This course stresses the application of the theoretical knowledge of the reading process, recognition of the specific needs of different students, knowledge of instructional strategies, and a grasp of methods of assessment to understand a student’s strengths and needs. The course introduces candidates to various types of assessments and their purposes, strengths, and limitations. Candidates in this course will begin to use assessment results to plan and implement instruction to accelerate the progress of challenged readers. 30 hours fieldwork required (15 hours at PK-4 and 15 hours at 5-12 grade band). Field work may be job-referenced. Open only to Literacy Specialist students. Successful completion of this course requires a grade of B- or better. Prerequisite or corequisite: LTED*600.
