INCH 503 - Assessment and Planning in Inclusive Childhood Education Systems


The focus of this course is to examine and practice how assessment drives planning and instruction. In line with the Continuum of Services, a parallel continuum of assessment will be explored through the lenses of general education (CBM, AIS, RtI) and special education (IEPs). Students will become familiar with the requirements of state and federal regulations (IDEA and NYS part 200 Regulations) and the specific needs of children. Related issues of family involvement, due process, student discipline and assistive technology will also be addressed. This course includes an additional and required interprofessional experience, IPE*598, which is embedded in the course and meets outside the regular face-to-face class meetings of INCH 503. 25 hours fieldwork required for initial certification. 20 hours fieldwork required for additional certification. Prerequisites: INCL*501 and INCL*502 OR INCL*601 and INCL*602.
