MUS 470 - Musical Borrowing Explores selected methods and techniques of borrowing existing music by composers from the Middle Ages to postmodernism. Emphasis on the changing functions of borrowing in various historical eras and corresponding musical practices ranging from the cantus firmus to quotation to recomposition to sampling.
