PTR 525 - Patient/Client Management III


The use of physical agents will be presented within the context of comprehensive patient management with emphasis on pain management, tissue healing, and optimizing function. The students will learn physiological effects of energy transfer (thermal, electromagnetic, acoustic, mechanical, and electrical) on body tissues or systems. Interventions include the use of hot/cold agents, ultrasound, hydrotherapy, aquatic therapy, traction, compression, radiation, light energy and electrical stimulation. Indications, contraindications, and precautions in their application will be covered. Examination techniques, including movement observation, gait analysis, and other tests and measures will be practiced. Additional course fee required. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all prior required PT courses. Corequisite: PTR*525L.
