Rome, from the foundation of the city in the eighth century BCE, to the end of the Republic in the first century BCE. Topics include: the evolution of Roman politics, from Etruscan kingship to the rise and fall of the Republic; the expansion of Roman power in Italy and the Mediterranean world; the effects of slavery and warfare on the socio-economic and political life of Rome; the civil wars of the first century and the dictatorship of Julius Caesar.Course Codes: BR.
