RES 342 - PII Matthew, Mark and Luke: Synoptic Gospels


(Perspectives II course) A detailed examination of the New Testament Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, with a special focus on the distinctive portrait of Jesus presented in each text. Major issues and contemporary methods for the study of gospel literature will be introduced. Special emphasis will be placed on the social location of the Gospels within the Graeco-Roman world along with a general introduction to the literary, socio-rhetorical, and historical-critical methodologies used in biblical study.
