HIS 324G - PII Native American II: Removal-Present


(Perspectives II Global course) This course examines the history of Native Americans from the end of the removal era through the present. We will discuss the methods used by historians and anthropologists in studying cultures of North America. We will explore the issues of United States expansionism and the Plains Wars, the early twentieth century (often called the nadir of American Indian history), and the revitalization that occurred throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. We will look at the changing legal status of Native Americans, their migrations to urban areas, and the contemporary issues of Indian gaming and other legal and economic concerns. Course Codes: BR.
