AHI.Q 272 - Survey II: Late Renaissance thru 19th Century Art History


(PEQ Visual Performing Arts) How important is freedom for artistic creativity? Can art truly be ‘art’ if it is created to serve some political or religious purpose? This course explores these questions by studying Western painting and sculpture (Renaissance to 19th C.), and introduces students to the discipline of art history. Students will study the cultures that allowed masters such as Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer and others to thrive. Course Codes: ABR.
