Students completing the accounting major acquire the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as active members of the accounting profession. Students will be immersed in a business core curriculum that provides an understanding of economics, management, marketing, technology, finance, entrepreneurial and global issues. They will learn to use sound professional judgment to resolve problems in an analytical and ethical manner. Their professional education will be balanced with studies in the liberal arts to better understand the role of the professional in business and society. In addition, students are encouraged to pursue an internship in accounting to gain valuable work experience for academic credit.
A grade of B- or higher in ACT*210 Principles of Accounting II is required to move forward with the accounting major. In addition, completion of a B.S. in Accounting requires a minimum GPA of 2.7 in Accounting coursework (ACT subject code) as well as an overall college-wide GPA of 2.7.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of basic accounting principles and auditing standards.
- Students will demonstrate competency in professional written and oral communication.
- Students will demonstrate team building and collaborative skills necessary to accomplish group tasks.
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of general business concepts and principles.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to identify the influence of global, political, legal and ethical issues on individuals and organizations.

All Nazareth students complete Core Curriculum coursework as part of their degree requirements. The Core provides a foundation in the liberal arts and sciences while guiding students to pose and explore their own intellectual questions.
