Students in the PIPCID program pursue a 7-course sequence that blends
the best of the classical rhetorical tradition with contemporary writing
challenges. Grounded in both theory and
praxis, courses focus on rhetoric, technical writing and graphics,
scriptwriting and videography, as well as substantive study of comparative
linguistics. Through an off-campus
internship and the capstone senior seminar–including extensive experience with
various computer platforms and software–students discover how academic skills
and professional ethics are essential in the work place, be it in advertising,
public relations, editing, teaching, or law.
As well as standing as a concentration unto itself, the program can be
complementary to any other major, since graduate schools and employers want
people with honed communication skills.
Students applying to the program must have a 3.0 GPA.
