Initial Teacher Certification in Art Education Birth-12

Undergraduate studio art majors with a 2.7 overall GPA and a 3.0 GPA in
studio art courses are eligible to apply to the Art Education program
after the first semester of sophomore year. Applicants should complete
a Major Advisor Form available in the Academic Advisement Center.
Transfer students are eligible to apply after they have completed their
first semesters at Nazareth College.
In addition to the Art Education Program courses, students
must complete the New York State Certification Examinations required for
certification:
- Liberal Arts & Sciences
(LAST)
- Assessment of Teaching Skills – Written (ATSW) (Because art certification is
Birth –12, students may take either the Elementary or the Secondary version
of the exam.)
- Content Area – Visual Arts (CST)
This program requires completion of the Art Education Major. For a
