technical, social, and business skills needed to gain entry level positions in
the modern organization, and to be leaders in the integration and use of
technology in current and future business environments.
Successful completion of the Information Technology program
will allow students to:
- Acquire
a foundation of computer and information systems knowledge and skills
which will allow them to be successful in a modern business environment,
help them acquire new skills as technologies evolve and find technological
solutions which are technically, practically and ethically sound.
- Acquire
sufficient knowledge of business and management to understand general
business processes and functions and the effect of technology upon them.
- Understand
the wider implications and influences of economics, ethics and
globalization on business processes and functions.
- Gain an
understanding of the key role technology plays in both tactical and
strategic business planning and implementation.
- Develop
skills in the areas of communication (oral and written),
critical thinking, analysis and teamwork.
According the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the employment of
computing professionals is expected to increase much faster than average as
technology becomes more sophisticated and organizations continue to adapt and
integrate these technologies.
Job increases will be driven by very rapid growth in
computer system design and related services, which is projected to be one of
the fastest-growing industries in the U.S. economy.
