Return to: ACADEMIC PROGRAMS A-Z
The Music Theory Minor is intended for students enrolled in degree programs other than the Bachelor of Arts in Music. This 18 credit minor allows students to pursue an auxiliary interest in music theory and affords them a selection of courses that will provide a broad overview of the discipline as it is practiced today.
|
Required Courses
The following three-credit Music Theory courses are required for a Music Theory minor. Each of these courses has a corequisite Aural Skills class. Although these Aural Skills classes should be taken in conjunction with the required Music Theory classes, their credit hours do not count toward the minor’s total 18 credits. Electives
Students will select three of the following three-credit upper-division courses in consultation with their advisor. Senior Project
Students must also enroll in MUX 491, Music Theory Senior Project, for no credits. Students should enroll in MUX 491 after completing their eighteen credits, or concurrently with their final upper-division course. The final project, prepared during the semester of enrollment, may refine and/or expand a research paper already written in an upper-division course. |
