The theatre arts major with inclusive childhood/middle childhood education major is designed for students preparing to teach at the elementary or middle school level, and/or to teach students with special needs. The theatre arts portion of
this program consists of 41 credits and production participations to complete the B.A. degree in theatre arts. Participation in college theatrical productions and departmental work calls is required. Seven production labs are required in at least four different areas, with at least one “preparation” [P] and one “run crew” [R] experience, in any of the following areas: acting, assistant stage management, costumes (P, R), scenery (P, R), properties (P, R), makeup (P, R), and special projects (P, R). In addition, students take the appropriate education courses to prepare them for the classroom.
Students seeking initial certification at the childhood and middle childhood levels may double major in theatre arts and inclusive childhood/middle childhood education. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.7 before moving into INCL 440/441 and the Professional Semester (student teaching).

Theatre Arts Core

Additional Theatre Arts Requirements
Theatre Arts students must complete the following additional courses: Theatre Arts Elective Courses
Theatre Arts students who are pursuing Inclusive Certification must take one theatre elective at the 200 level and one theatre elective at the 300/400 level. In most cases, students must select the theatre electives that are designated as liberal arts courses in order to earn enough liberal arts credits for the bachelor of arts degree. Required Courses for Inclusive Childhood/Middle Childhood Education Major
The following courses are required for the Inclusive Childhood/Middle Childhood Education major. The major prepares students for the initial teacher certification requirements in four certification areas: Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), Teaching Students with Disabilities at the Childhood Level (Grades 1-6), Middle Childhood Education - Generalist or Content Specialist (Grades 5-9), and Teaching Students with Disabilities at the Middle Childhood Level (Grades 5-9). *Students in the Inclusive Childhood/Middle Childhood major who are pursuing a B.A. degree must take all electives in liberal arts areas in order to earn the 90 liberal arts credits that are required for the degree. Theatre Arts Senior Experience
The Senior Experience for Theatre majors consists of a required seminar (THA 452- Seminar in Theatre with a zero-credit internship). In this course, the students reflect on their major experience, and they are given opportunities to integrate material from theatre and other core areas of the college experience.
