Nursing Major - Four Year Nursing Licensure

The four-year nursing licensure program is designed for the undergraduate student with no previous experience in professional nursing. The program emphasis is on transcultural nursing, preparing the graduates of the program to work in a wide variety of settings to provide culturally sensitive care to clients.

Nazareth College offers a broad range of courses in the liberal arts, humanities, nursing, and the sciences to help students achieve educational and professional goals. The program provides students with the breadth of knowledge that characterizes the well-educated professional, so students are prepared to face the needs of a changing society and to obtain leadership positions in the health care field.
All potential nursing students must meet the general college admission requirements. Students should also demonstrate proficiency in mathematics and science. Students in their first two years of study must maintain an overall GPA of 2.75, with a minimum grade of C in all required nursing major courses. Students must maintain a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.75 to progress in the nursing major. The College reserves the right to withdraw a student whose level of achievement, clinical practice, health, or professional conduct constitutes a risk to self or others.
The nursing department estimates the specific costs for uniforms, shoes, stethoscope, and so forth for four-year licensure students to be between $150 and $200.
Graduates of this program are eligible to take, and must pass, the NCLEX-RN examination to become a Registered Professional Nurse. The program awards a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Nursing Core
Students in the Department of Nursing are required to complete the following core courses:

In addition to all the core courses listed above,
all pre-licensure students are required to take the following courses: Nursing Senior Experience
The senior experience for both the pre-licensure students and the
registered nursing majors consists of seminars, projects and a departmental
comprehensive examination in which majors examine the impact of their
baccalaureate education on themselves as liberally educated persons, as members
of the nursing profession, and as members of a global society. The goals of the
senior experience are twofold: 1) to develop critical thinking, problem-solving
and interactive skills as liberally-educated professional nurses; and 2) to
analyze the interconnections among health, nursing, the liberal arts and the
humanities, especially from the core areas of the Natural Sciences, Philosophy,
Religious Studies, Literature, History, Fine Arts, Mathematics and Social
Sciences. Freshman Year
