Return to: ACADEMIC PROGRAMS A-Z
The mathematics major is designed for students who want a solid mathematical background for a broad range of career options, including industry and graduate work. Many math majors have minors or double majors. This program consists of 40 credits of mathematics, including Calculus III, Differential Equations, Real Analysis, and Modern Algebra. Students also take two semesters of physics (calculus-based) and one semester of a programming language.
Students are officially accepted into the mathematics major after completion of MTH 201, Introduction to Mathematical Structures, with a C grade or better. All mathematics majors must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, both in the major and overall.

required to take the 24 credits listed below.
Elective Courses for Mathematics Majors
For the Mathematics major, students select nine credits (3 courses) from this
list of elective courses.
Mathematics Senior Experience
The Senior Experience for Mathematics is designed to promote
integration of the core topics. In MTH 399, Problem Solving, students
are challenged to use all facets of their mathematics background to
