Students completing the accounting major acquire the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as an active member of the profession. Students completing the B.S. in accounting will:
•Be immersed in a business core curriculum that provides an understanding of economics, management, marketing, technology, finance, and entrepreneurial and global issues.
•Develop proficiency in the areas of communication (oral and written), critical thinking, and teamwork that will enable them to be skilled professionals.
•Learn to use sound professional judgment to resolve problems in an analytical and ethical manner.
•Balance their professional education with studies in the liberal arts to better understand the role of the professional in business and to promote life-long learning and the pursuit of personal growth.
In addition, students completing the B.S./M.S. in accounting will:
•Meet the requirements to sit for the New York State CPA exam.
•Be encouraged to pursue an internship in accounting to gain valuable work experience for academic credit.
A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for all accounting courses as well as for the overall GPA for completion of a B.S. in accounting. A minimum GPA of 2.7 is required to continue in the M.S. accounting program.
