Mathematics Major with Inclusive Education

Childhood and Childhood with Disabilities (Grades 1 - 6)
Middle Childhood and Middle Childhood with Disabilities Specialist (MCWD) (Grades 5 - 9)

Our Mathematics Major with Inclusive Certification program is designed for students preparing to teach at the elementary level, mathematics middle school level and/or to teach students with special needs. The Mathematics portion of this program consists of 36 credits of mathematics including Exploring Mathematics, the History of Mathematics, Number Theory, and the Foundations of Geometry. Students also take a computer applications course and science courses in two different areas. In addition, students take the appropriate education courses to prepare them for the classroom.

Students are officially accepted into the Mathematics major after completion of Mth 201, Introduction to Mathematical Structures, with a C grade or better.

All Mathematics majors must maintain a 2.0 GPA, both in the major and overall and a 2.7 GPA for education.

In addition to the Mathematics core, students in the Mathematics Major with Inclusive Education must take the 15 credit hours listed below.

Elective Courses for Mathematics Major with Inclusive Education


Students with a Mathematics Major with Inclusive Education must take both science and mathematics electives. These include:

  • Seven credits of science including one science lab course.

  • Six credits in upper division mathematics courses from the following list:
