This degree prepares students for a career in the music therapy profession.  Completion of the degree and the subsequent six-month music therapy internship results in eligibility to sit for the national certification examination in music therapy.  Successful completion of the examination results in the Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) credential awarded by the Certification Board for Music Therapists.  Students find employment as therapists in public and private institutional settings as well as in private practice. Students may also matriculate to graduate programs.

Grades in all music therapy courses must be “C” or above.  The completion of one additional psychology elective allows a psychology minor. A gerontology minor is also available. Students with strong academic records may be interested in completing additional requirements for music education certification. One additional year of study is needed for this dual program.

The Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy degree requires a minimum of 131 credits.
