Nursing Major - LPN to BS Program

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: School of Health and Human Services

The LPN to BS Program is designed for graduates of schools of practical nursing to expand their career opportunities. Graduates of the Nazareth program prepare to become professional registered nurses by earning a BS in Nursing and qualifying to take the NCLEX-RN exam. These credentials provide the education needed to earn a RN license, and advance nursing expertise and employment opportunities.

Prior education and experience as a LPN are recognized by successfully completing National League for Nursing Challenge Exams in Fundamentals and Maternal-Child Nursing to earn 12 college credits. Your personal program plan and the length of time needed to complete the LPN to BS Program will depend on the number of college credits in liberal arts and sciences that you transfer to Nazareth College from your practical nursing education program and additional college courses you have completed. The entire program requires 120 college credits.

Admission Criteria

You must be a graduate of a practical nurse program and either hold an LPN license and current registration to practice or are awaiting NCLEX-PN test results within the next six months. You will be expected to have a GPA of 2.3 on a scale of 4.0 for the college credits you wish to transfer into Nazareth. Upon acceptance into the BS Program, a list of course requirements and schedule for progression through the curriculum will be created for you.

Nazareth College has special programs leading to the BS in Nursing for graduates from the Isabella Graham Hart and the Marion S. Whalen Schools of Practical Nursing. Nazareth College has transfer agreements with these programs. Graduates can receive transfer credits for college courses completed as part of their practical nursing program.

Applicants who have graduated from other schools of practical nursing are also welcomed. Applications will be reviewed for potential awarding of transfer credits. If you are a graduate of a practical nurse program that does not award college credit, you will need to provide evidence that you can achieve a GPA of 2.3 on a 4.0 scale for at least 30 undergraduate credits.
