Early Intervention Specialist (Advanced Certificate)

Return to: Interprofessional Programs
The Early Intervention Specialist Advanced Certificate prepares professionals with specialized knowledge and skills in early intervention to support young children and their families and to advocate for high-quality services. The program interprofessionally prepares students to collaborate across disciplines; work with families in culturally responsive, family-centered, and trauma-informed ways; and support the developmental, social-emotional, and functional needs of children (0-8 years), including children with diverse abilities. Coursework emphasizes evidence-informed practice, understanding of service systems and policies, and the professional competencies needed to navigate and advocate within early childhood programs and services.
This specialization is valuable because early intervention can significantly impact a child’s developmental trajectory, and well-prepared professionals are essential in ensuring that young children and their families receive coordinated, developmentally-appropriate, family-centered, and equitable supports. The EIS Advanced Certificate is ideal for graduate students and early career professionals in allied health (art therapy, music therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work, and speech-language pathology) and inclusive early childhood education fields who seek to work with young children and families in healthcare, education, or social service settings.
