The Optics Minor prepares students for careers in biomedicine, imaging, and nanotechnology by integrating life sciences, photonics, and advanced optical techniques. With Rochester as a leading optics and photonics hub, students gain interdisciplinary training and hands-on experience in this rapidly growing field. The minor complements programs in Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, and Mathematics, equipping graduates with the critical thinking and technical skills needed for careers in medical technology, photonics, and optical systems innovation.
Students in the Optics Minor must complete 18 credit hours. They are also encouraged to participate in research opportunities, including national REU programs.
