Community Youth Development - Minor

Develops students’ knowledge, values and skills for meaningful interaction with children and youth.
Trauma-informed and culturally responsive youth development practices are embedded in all CYD courses.
Self-awareness and personal reflection are incorporated as a part of the service-learning experiences.
Intentionally and coherently connects interdisciplinary academic coursework with students’ interests in youth and community-based youth development resources.

CYD 201 - Youth Development in Community Settings Credits: 3
CYD 301 - Guidance and Engagement Techniques with Youth: Real Strategies Credits: 3
CYD 401 - Trauma-Informed Youth Development: Historical and Cultural Impacts Credits: 3

Internship Requirement

CYD 484 - Community-Based Youth Development Internship Credits: 3
(Summer internships using SPARK grants are permitted for CYD*484)

or
Social Work majors with a minor in Community Youth Development complete the following in lieu of CYD*484.
SWK 484 - Social Work Senior Practicum I Credits: 3
SWK 492 - Social Work Senior Practicum II Credits: 3

Senior Experience

CYD 480 is the senior experience, to be taken after completion of CYD 201, 301 and CYD 484 Internship.
