PTR 626 - Cardiopulmonary Management


This course addresses Physical Therapy evaluation and interventions of cardiac, pulmonary, and vascular conditions. Students learn examination skills including heart and lung auscultation, fremitus, and evaluative percussion. Intervention topics include airway clearance techniques and exercise prescription. Indications and contraindications for interventions in individuals throughout the lifespan with significant compromise from diseases are thoroughly discussed. Outcome measures of heart and lung function including ECG, six minute walk test, and pulmonary function tests are addressed in depth. Students present on cardiovascular and pulmonary issues based on the best level of evidence. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all prior required PT courses. Corequisite: PTR*626L.
