PHL 222 - Philosophy of Art and Music

An introduction to some of the many philosophical issues that surround art and music through an examination of the following topics: historical and modern conceptions of the aesthetic, the notion of truth in art, the musically beautiful, form, content, and symbol in art, and understanding and interpreting art. Differences between art, craft, the true, the aesthetic and the beautiful will be explored. Course Codes: BR. Prerequisite: PHL.Q 101.
