TSL 664 - Foundations of Bilingual/Multicultural Education


A study of the theory and practice of bilingual and multicultural education including both the historical and political impact of these issues in American public school systems. Focus on the relationship of educational thought and policy to social, cultural, and linguistic communities through an examination of curricula, programs, placement, and assessment of linguistically and culturally diverse students. The roles of federal, state, and local, and classroom policies in shaping the education of English Language Learners will be described and compared. A substantial field experience of at least two days or the equivalent in an educational setting serving English Language Learners is a required component of this course.
