ENGL 340 - PII Cinema Studies (Perspectives II course) This course will provide a comprehensive overview of the major theoretical and critical approaches to the study of film. This includes detailed coverage of established critical perspectives such as semiotics, formalism, surrealism, feminism and psychoanalysis, as well as important newer areas of study such as film audiences and reception, queer theory, and identity politics. As such, the course will serve as an overview of the key critical thinkers and theories surrounding the study of cinema situated within their appropriate historical and cultural contexts.
