ENGL.Q 150 - Space and Place

(Perspectives Enduring Questions) This course explores enduring questions about place and space in select works of literature through the lens of spatial studies, an interdisciplinary field that considers the impact of region and place (neighborhood, town, city, ecosystem, nation, region, virtual space) on individuals, cultures, and societies. As do other P(EQ) courses in Literature, this class develops student skills in close reading, literary analysis, and argumentation, but the course also emphasizes the study of locale and might include such considerations as the following: ecology/climate issues, digital culture, nationalism/colonialism, ethnicity/gender/sexuality, socioeconomic class, and aesthetics.
